“Tha Chalom: A Laid-Back Seaside Day Trip”

Start your journey by taking the Wongwian Yai–Mahachai railway line. Once you arrive at Mahachai, hop on the ferry to cross over to Tha Chalom — a quiet and charming old seaside community that has preserved its unique character through time.

Your first stop is Wat Yai Chom Prasat, an ancient temple located along the main road of Tha Chalom. Here, you can explore the old buildings and ordination hall, or simply relax under the trees or by the Tha Chin River for a peaceful moment.

Next, take a short walk to St. Anna Church, a modest but striking Christian church by the canal. The simple architecture and serene surroundings make it a great spot to pause, admire, and take photos.

Around noon, enjoy a meal at one of the many seafood restaurants in the Tha Chalom area, offering fresh catches from the sea. Then head over to the City Pillar Shrine of Samut Sakhon, a respected site where locals come to pray for health and career blessings.

End your day at Wat Sutthiwat Wararam (Wat Chong Lom), a seaside temple located near the mouth of the Tha Chin River. The highlight here is “Phra Ruang Rochanarit,” a large standing Buddha statue. You can also take a leisurely stroll along the waterfront and enjoy the calm sea breeze.

After visiting all the key sites, make your way back to the pier to cross back to Mahachai, then catch the train back to Bangkok. It’s a simple yet enriching day trip filled with local charm, peaceful scenery, and stories from the past.

Description
"This temple, over 400 years old, is believed to have been built during the Ayutthaya period. Originally called 'Wat Yai' or 'Wat Chom Prasat', it was later renamed 'Wat Sakhon Buri' by King Rama V, who also donated the entire set of the Buddhist scriptures to the temple. The temple has a beautiful ordination hall with intricately carved wooden doors, creating a three-dimensional effect. The old vihara, though in ruins, still retains its beauty with ornamental stucco work. The temple is a registered national monument."

"Suthi Wararam Temple (Chong Lom Temple) is located at the mouth of the Tha Chin River in Tha Chalom sub-district. It is a royal monastery beautifully decorated. In front of the temple stands the monument of King Rama V, built to honor his visit to Tha Chalom and the establishment of the first sanitary district in Thailand. Inside the temple, there are interesting features such as the Viharn Luang Pu Kaeo, housing a statue of Luang Pu Kaeo, a former provincial primate and abbot of Wat Chong Lom. There is also Phra Hin Daeng, a large Buddha statue from the late Ayutthaya period made entirely of laterite, known for its unique feature of having six fingers on its left hand, hence the name 'Phra Hin Daeng 11 Fingers.'"
